What your STIHL warranty covers

STIHL's standard coverage: 2-year limited (homeowner use). Exact terms vary by model and date of purchase — confirm yours on the official STIHL warranty page.

Before you file: gather these

How to file a STIHL warranty claim, step by step

  1. Contact STIHL through an official channel

Use the support number or claim form on STIHL's official site — not a third-party seller — so your claim is on record with the manufacturer. Start at the official STIHL warranty/support page.

  2. Give them your model, serial, and purchase date

Have these ready — it's the first thing they'll ask, and it lets them confirm your coverage immediately.

  3. Describe the problem clearly

Explain the defect and that you believe it's covered under the STIHL warranty. Reference the specific coverage (e.g. the sealed-system or motor coverage above) if it applies.

  4. Get everything in writing

Save your case/reference number, the rep's name, and a summary of what was agreed. This paper trail is what resolves disputes if anything stalls.

  5. If it's denied, push back

A denial isn't final — see our guide on what to do if your claim is denied.

Common STIHL warranty situations: Common STIHL claims: chainsaw chain-brake engagement issues, bar oil pump failures, trimmer carburetor problems. STIHL's dealer-only model means faster local resolution for most claims — the dealer assesses on the spot and orders covered parts directly. STIHL's warranty is 2 years for consumer products and 1 year for professional/farm-and-ranch products.

STIHL does not have a central consumer warranty phone line. All warranty service is performed exclusively at authorized STIHL dealers — find yours at stihlusa.com/information/stihl-approved-dealers/. Bring the product, your receipt, and the original bar and chain to the dealer. STIHL's warranty specifically requires that the product was purchased from an authorized STIHL dealer; products purchased from unauthorized sources are not covered.
