How long is the HP warranty?

HP laptops, desktops, and printers ship with a base 1-year limited warranty, with business lines (EliteBook, ProBook) and premium consumer models sometimes carrying longer or upgraded terms. HP's Care Pack add-ons extend coverage and can add accidental damage protection, on-site service, or next-business-day response. As with Dell, the base consumer warranty is mail-in depot service; if speed matters, the serial-number lookup will tell you whether a Care Pack with faster service is attached to your unit.

How to file an HP warranty claim

  1. Find your proof of purchase

    Locate the receipt, order confirmation, or card statement showing the purchase date — coverage is measured from it.

  2. Locate the model & serial number

    Usually on a label on the unit, in the manual, or in your online account. HP support will ask for it first.

  3. Contact HP through an official channel

    Use the support number or claim form on their official site — not third-party sellers — so your claim is on record with the manufacturer.

  4. Document everything

    Save case numbers, names, dates, and photos of the defect. A clear paper trail resolves disputes faster.

  5. Escalate if needed

    If a valid claim stalls, ask for a supervisor and reference your statutory rights as a consumer (see our warranty types guide).

Repair or replace your HP? A quick rule of thumb

The common guidance: if the repair costs more than half the price of a new unit, or the unit is past ~75% of its expected lifespan, replacement usually wins.
